The World List of Intangibles of Tourist Attraction

Faith and devotion were the primary subjects depicted in 49 unique “carpets” covering more than 19 blocks from the historical center of the city. Some creators had been working on design and the collection of special seeds since January.

Most carpets are created from sawdust, with particular artists enhancing their designs with touches of beans, seeds, or other elements. This sawdust is made from leftover wood shavings from local carpenters. The sawdust is dyed a variety of colors and used to create patterns or religious scenes. The results are large and colorful, fascinating viewers and creating a photographer’s paradise.
